Objectives

To spread among new generations — particularly school-aged youth — empowerment tools to promote the vision and creation of a world free from nuclear weapons.

To promote and foster debate on the direct correlation between nuclear disarmament and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To promote advocacy actions to strengthen public awareness and information, as well as that of institutions, so that the Italian Government signs and ratifies the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

To contribute to the strengthening of Italian and international partnerships to foster continuous dialogue and promote a culture of peace and creative coexistence.

The Senzatomica awareness campaign aims to provide peace education and individual empowerment, stimulating a public movement to ban the development, testing, possession, stockpiling, use, or threat of use of nuclear weapons.
The campaign — supported for the fourth consecutive year through 8×1000 funds from the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai — has garnered significant interest over the years thanks to its approach focused on promoting peace education, disarmament, and inclusive dialogue to transform the human spirit.

One of the campaign’s main tools is the traveling exhibition “Senzatomica – Trasformare lo spirito umano per un mondo libero da armi nucleari” (Transforming the human spirit for a world free from nuclear weapons).

The exhibition focuses on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and develops the key themes contained in its Preamble, aiming to highlight the new horizons of possibility for the world that the TPNW can open. Furthermore, the exhibition aims to inform, provoke reflection, and empower ordinary people. It is crucial that individuals are informed about the true reality of nuclear weapons and understand that it is their right and duty to express their opinion so that they can raise their voices on such a close and important issue. The exhibition aims to unleash courage and creativity to create an unstoppable force for peace. The program, to be set up in collaboration with local administrations and schools, is intended for people of all ages and serves as an educational tool.

To promote peace and nuclear disarmament education in Italian schools, a training course will also be developed for teachers of all levels from various Italian regions. This course will be accredited on the SOFIA platform for official recognition of teachers’ training credits. Additionally, in 2025, a training program will be developed for university students.

Senzatomica was awarded the Medaglia di rappresentanza medal by the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano.

The commitment to achieving the TPNW earned ICAN — of which Senzatomica has been a partner since its founding — the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. A delegation from Senzatomica was invited to the award ceremony in Oslo in December of the same year.
