Promote Global Citizenship Education among university students, integrating theoretical and practical training on sustainability, human rights, and climate justice.
Develop critical awareness and cross-cutting skills through field experiences, internships, and intercultural exchanges.
Empower youth as active changemakers and informed citizens, also through peer education practices.
Foster intercultural dialogue between Italy and Tunisia, through reciprocal study visits and collaboration among universities and civil society organizations.
The project “Teaching Global Citizenship Education at University. An Experiential Approach”, promoted by the University of Bologna in collaboration with WeWorld and the University of Carthage, aims to strengthen Global Citizenship Education (GCE) skills among university students.
The project, supported for the second consecutive year through the 8×1000 funds of the Italian Soka Gakkai, is specifically aimed at students enrolled in the interdisciplinary course “Global Citizenship Competencies”, launched as a pilot in the 2022–2023 academic year as part of the UNESCO Chair in Global Citizenship Education at the University of Bologna. It seeks to integrate theoretical learning with practical, intercultural experiences that offer strong educational value.
The initiative directly involves 40 students (30 from the University of Bologna and 10 from the University of Carthage, Tunisia) in experiential activities structured around three core components:
- Study visit to Tunisia, in collaboration with UNESCO Maghreb and the University of Carthage, to explore issues related to migration and global sustainability.
- Service learning activities focused on gender equality, climate justice, and sustainable development models.
- Study visit of Tunisian students to Bologna, allowing them to strengthen connections with Italian peers and participate in university lectures and cultural activities.
The project is characterized by a participatory and inclusive approach, the use of peer education, and the active promotion of youth as agents of social and environmental change.
