“Action for Climate Empowerment” Call for Proposal

Area of Intervention
This call for proposals intends to support initiatives pursuing the objectives identified for the area of intervention “Environment”. This area integrates environmental and economic dimensions to promote a sustainable, fair and inclusive development, and create a society that is able to protect the interests of present and future generations.

Purpose
The Paris Agreement builds on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), bringing all nations together in a common cause to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to strengthen the capacity of countries to build resilience and adapt to the impacts of climate change, including by ensuring adequate support for countries in the Global South.
Within the UNFCCC, the ACE (Action for Climate Empowerment) strand focuses on climate change education, training and awareness. In the process, it also seeks to shift the focus of climate strategies to groups that are often underrepresented, with an emphasis on youth involvement, and with the goal of empowering all members of society to engage in climate action.
In identifying the objectives of the following Call for Proposals, the Soka Gakkai Italian Buddhist Institute was inspired by Goals 4, 13, and 16 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs), making explicit reference to the educational, informational, and participatory aspects to which the ACE agenda is closely related.

General Objective
The purpose of the call is to actively contribute to fighting climate change by supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement, with particular reference to the strand called “Action for Climate Empowerment” (ACE), the aim of which is to empower all members of society to engage in climate action.
