The Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai is pleased to announce the opening of a 30-day window for the submission of project proposals eligible for 8×1000 funds, focusing on the theme of art and culture.

The invitation is to support artistic projects that involve the production of visual arts, music, theater and performing arts, cinema and digital media, literature, and creative writing.

This initiative is open to projects conceived and carried out by young people under the age of 35 (with at least 70% of the involved staff being under 35).

A brief description of the proposal can be submitted via the 8×1000 Management Platform, accessible through the following link. After registering on the platform, it is necessary to fill in the “Anagrafica” area and proceed with the submission. Once you have received confirmation of the activation of the master data from the administrative office, the system allows access to the Windows.

The deadline for proposal submission is September 26, 2024. Project durations should range between 12 and 24 months. Projects must be carried out entirely within Italy.

This initiative falls within the “Culture” intervention area, viewed as an expression of the human spirit capable of liberating individuals from narrow perspectives, connecting different peoples of the world, and uniting them in the search for our shared humanity. In the Buddhist vision, artistic and cultural exchanges between peoples and individuals lead to the realization that no community is inherently superior or inferior to others, thereby overcoming all forms of prejudice and discrimination and fostering friendship among nations.

The opening of this window represents an initial step, focusing on the alignment and relevance of the proposal with the objectives outlined by IBISG. It seeks to gather preliminary project concepts, including a summary of goals and target beneficiaries.

Selection results will be notified within 45 working days following the closure of the submission window.

Selected proposals will be asked to submit a more detailed project proposal, including a comprehensive budget, at a later stage.

The selection of projects and initiatives to be funded, as well as the amount awarded, will be at the sole discretion of the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai.

Context

In Italy, the environment for young artists is marked by a rich and vibrant cultural scene, but also by significant challenges and difficulties.

Italy’s long and rich artistic tradition can be a great source of inspiration for young Italian artists. There are numerous art schools, academies, and cultural institutions that offer training and professional development opportunities for young artists.

However, many artistic professions are characterized by economic instability, with periods of intermittent work and financial uncertainty. This instability can make it particularly challenging for young artists to maintain a stable source of income and sustain their artistic practice in the long term.

Public funding that supports the cultural and arts industries is subject to fluctuations and cuts, especially during economic downturns.

Objectives

This window aims to support artistic projects involving the production of visual arts, music, theater and performing arts, cinema and digital media, literature, and creative writing.

It is essential to achieve at least 2 of the following specific objectives:

  • Support and promote creativity and innovation among young artists by providing funding for projects that reflect originality, talent, and commitment in the artistic and cultural sector.
  • Contribute to making artworks and artistic events more accessible and inclusive for the public (for example, through free access programs, translations into other languages, accessibility for people with disabilities, and the promotion of diverse cultures).
  • Increase enthusiasm for the arts among young people by presenting innovative proposals that create engaging artistic experiences, inspire, and transform the perception of art among new generations.
