Objectives

Direct intervention to rescue animals in need.

Raising community awareness to such an extent that it becomes an active driver of intervention and change.

The degradation of nature and the environment, especially in the outskirts of major cities, is a clear indication of a deep crisis in the relationship between humans, the environment, and animals.

Now in its second year, the project involves the local community and includes:

  • Direct intervention in the care, nurturing, relocation, or release of animals in need;
  • Dissemination, communication, awareness-raising, and training for operators, partners, and the community (focused on knowledge and the promotion of active resilience practices, ethically and ecologically sound behavioral models, and ethical, plant-based consumption patterns).

The goal is the reintroduction of animals into their natural habitats (in collaboration with local wildlife sanctuaries). Where necessary, the project provides for the custody of animals in a protected and suitable environment where they can enjoy a good quality of life—this applies to animals that are sick, disabled, imprinted, or targeted by eradication policies due to being deemed harmful, as well as domesticated animals classified as “livestock.”

To achieve this, the project will utilize existing facilities established in the first step, such as initial reception structures, a first-aid infirmary, recovery cages, rehabilitation aviaries and enclosures, and acclimatization spaces; newly planned facilities, including quarantine areas, additional shelters, and enclosures will be also developed in this second step.

Vitadacani will carry out the project in collaboration with the Piccola Società Cooperativa Vitadacani and the network La Rete dei Santuari di Animali Liberi, which coordinates 26 of the most prominent shelters for animals rescued from the meat industry.
