Create a bridge between emerging creativity and professional circuits, ensuring the short films have access to prestigious platforms such as the Venice Film Festival and a national tour.

Foster local participation and professional growth, involving under-25 local assistants and promoting peer-to-peer skills exchange.

Laguna Film Lab is an artistic residency dedicated to directors under 35, organized by ZaLab ETS in Chioggia. The project aims to produce short films focused on the relationship between humans and water in the context of the Venetian lagoon. During the residency, young filmmakers receive personalized mentorship and participate in meetings and masterclasses with film professionals, creating a direct connection with the Venice Film Festival, where the completed works are premiered.

The main activities of the project include:

  • A 15-day artistic residency in Chioggia for 5 young directors, supported by experienced tutors and assisted by under-25 local assistants.
  • Production of 5 short films centered on the theme of the relationship between humans and water, with filming in the lagoon and collaborative discussions between authors and tutors.
  • Screenings and promotion: premiere at the Venice Film Festival (Giornate degli Autori) and a public screening in Chioggia; national tour with free screenings in 6 Italian cities and online distribution on ZaLab View.
  • Advanced training: 4 masterclasses with renowned directors and professionals during the residency, post-production guidance, and support for submitting the works to national and international festivals.

The entire project aims to foster the professional growth of young filmmakers, highlight the culture and environment of the lagoon, and promote a new narrative of peripheral areas through documentary cinema.
