Present the results of the “Youth4Climate - Sparking Solutions” program during COP30 and highlight youth-led climate initiatives.

From October 17 to 19, 2023, 130 young people from 63 countries came to Rome to participate in the Youth4Climate Sparking Solutions event, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from the 8×1000 funds of the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai. During those days, a film crew followed and interviewed some of these young people to learn about their life stories, expectations, and the deep reasons that motivated them to find concrete solutions to the climate crisis. These interviews were compiled into a 15-minute documentary, which was successfully presented and screened at various occasions, including COP28 in Dubai.

To continue spreading the message of young change-makers and future-makers worldwide, UNDP aims to promote the creation and dissemination of a new 70-minute documentary that continues, completes, and concludes the story of Youth4Climate Sparking Solutions

The 70-minute documentary will highlight the innovative approach of international cooperation by centering on youth and their drive for change. Some of the winners of the Youth4Climate Sparking Solutions program will be involved to showcase the content of their projects and how they engage local communities. The film will explore two projects for each of the four thematic areas of Youth4Climate: Energy, Food, Education, and Urban.

The film will demonstrate how it is possible to inspire youth, catalyze change, and promote sustainability. The documentary, which will be presented at COP30, will deliver a strong message to governments and private sector actors about the results achieved through youth empowerment in climate action, aiming to create a ripple effect of including more young change leaders in their communities. This broader community of young people is ultimately the true target audience of the documentary, as it seeks to motivate and inspire young promoters of positive change, showing them that they are not alone on their journey.
