Objectives

Continue providing support through 576 educational grants, ensuring care for children and adolescents in vulnerable conditions and at risk of social exclusion.

Promote the scalability of the project by disseminating its results, particularly through sharing the stories of children and adolescents who benefit from the grants.

Raise awareness among local and national public entities about the impact of the grants through their direct involvement and/or by sharing the project's results and methodology.

In 2022, 13.4% of minors in Italy — approximately 1.27 million children — were living in absolute poverty. Material poverty is often one of the main causes of school dropout, which in Italy stands at 11.5% (two percentage points higher than the EU27 average of 9.6%), with the highest rates in Sicily (18.8%), Campania (16.1%), and Sardinia (14.7%). Economic conditions also significantly impact other aspects of children and adolescents’ lives, including their ability to participate in sports and cultural activities such as visiting museums and attending cinemas and theaters.

In line with previous years, the project aims to combat child poverty, both material and educational, by continuing the initiative focused on educational grants in 10 regions across Italy. The educational grant tool helps combat educational poverty by improving the basic and transversal skills and agency of vulnerable children and adolescents, while also strengthening the Educational Community in areas affected by social exclusion.

The project will be implemented in 10 Punti Luce (“Light Points”) located in 9 cities and 8 regions in Italy: Ancona, Brindisi, Catania, L’Aquila, Milan Giambellino, Palermo Zen, Palermo Zisa, Potenza, Rome, and Udine.
