Take care of the land and its inhabitants by responding to an urgent situation of environmental degradation.
Intervening directly to rescue animals in distress.
Sensitising the community to involve it as an actor and driver of intervention and change.
The degradation of nature and the environment around us, especially in the suburbs of large cities, is a clear sign of a profound crisis in the relationship between man, the environment and animals. The project, involving the local community, envisages:
- direct intervention to care for, look after and, when possible, rehome animals in difficulty;
- the awareness and training of operators and the community on the knowledge and appreciation of domestic and wild fauna present in the area; the dissemination of active resilience practices, i.e. how to actively intervene in accordance with correct guidelines, attempting to monitor the area, take a census of colonies and respond to reports.
The aim is the reintroduction of the animals into the wild (collaborations with oases in the area will be activated); where necessary, the project provides for housing in a protected and suitable space where sick and disabled animals and animals against which an eradication policy is in place can have a good quality of life. Therefore it is intended to build: first reception facilities for injured animals; a small infirmary for first aid and therapy; a room with cages for in-patients; rehabilitation aviaries; acclimatisation aviaries and enclosures (for animals that can almost be freed); enclosures for those who will not be able to return to the wild; cottages and enclosures for so-called farm animals.
Vitadacani will carry out the project in collaboration with: the Piccola Società Cooperativa Vitadacani; the network La Rete dei Santuari di Animali Liberi, which brings together 17 of the most representative shelters for animals rescued from the meat industry; the Lac (Lega Abolizione Caccia) and the local Lav.
