Objectives

Increase the level of understanding and knowledge among secondary school students about climate change, the impact of human activities, and the importance of community action as a driver of lifestyle changes among citizens.

Enhance the understanding and knowledge of teachers and educators on climate change and strengthen their acquisition of tools to engage young people, promoting new educational approaches.

Develop climate action plans that mobilize various social actors by promoting the adoption of cooperative and democratic methods.

The devastating impacts of recent extreme weather events in Tuscany highlight the alarming nature of the climate crisis and show that no territory is immune to its effects.

It is urgent to engage and activate local communities in the development of widespread, effective, and shared strategies to prevent and combat climate change.

The project promotes a set of actions involving the communities of the provinces of Florence and Siena (over 1.26 million inhabitants) with a focus on young people. These actions aim to disseminate behaviors and forms of active participation to combat climate change and mitigate human impact, structured into three main areas: 1) spreading knowledge and raising awareness among young people; 2) empowering citizens, social networks, young people, and entities; 3) involving communities for shared climate action.

Innovative elements of the project include:

  • The methodology based on an interactive and participatory approach, using educational tools such as multimedia supports, discussion networks, cooperative games, cooperative learning, and artistic-creative workshops.
  • Strategies to activate public participation: project actions will give voice to citizens, promoting the sharing of ideas and the development of proposals to foster dialogue with institutions. Attention will be paid to the representativeness of groups and proposals, with an approach that values diversity and inclusion, aiming for broad and sustainable solutions.
  • Diffused governance: identifying climate action plans is a process that mobilizes various social actors, promoting cooperative and democratic methods and recognizing the role played by civil society.
