Objectives

Guaranteeing the services and operations of a Safe Space for women and girls in Raqqa, a safe and decent center where women and girls, especially gender-based violence survivors, are supported and involved in empowerment activities.

Supporting recreational and psycho-social activities within the Child-Friendly Space (CFS), where children and adolescents can spend time during the day, be granted protection from violence and learn to live a better life from a social and emotional point of view.

In a dangerous and violent context that limits freedom of movement in the streets, granting women and girls access to the nearby healthcare structure and its pediatric, psycho-social and reproductive healthcare services, without the fear of social stigma.

Promoting awareness-raising initiatives for the local community; strengthening local personnel’s competences regarding protection and human rights through continuous supervision and training activities to guarantee specialized support even in the most vulnerable cases.

Eleven years into the Syrian crisis, the conflict is still on-going and the humanitarian sector is struggling to provide service to the 15.3 million people who are still in need. This figure has risen in the last year, while the international attention on this crisis keeps decreasing.

Raqqa is one of the Syrian cities most deeply affected by the consequences of war and bombardments. Safe spaces for women and children—where there are no harassment and violence and protection and access to humanitarian services are granted – are extremely rare in this destroyed city.
To respond to this need, the project “Spazi sicuri in Siria” (Safe spaces in Syria) offers support and services through a Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) and two Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) in Raqqa.

Thanks to this project, 1,155 women and girls and 1,328 children, adolescents and caregivers will have access to services within safe spaces at the WGSS and the two CFS; a transport service and the management of gender-based violence (GBV) and individual Child Protection (CP) cases will also be available.
Furthermore, 5,900 women, men and children from the Raqqa community will be reached by initiatives for awareness-raising and human rights protection.
At least 26 project partner staff in Raqqa will receive training and technical support through the project.
